"Drag Sethlas" Testified about Las Palmas Carnival Performance

Country: Spain

Date of incident: October 23, 2017

Borja Casillas, better known as "Drag Sethlas" testified before a judge to respond to a complaint filed by the Spanish Association of Christian Lawyers. He is accused of hurting religious sentiments during his performance at the Drag Gala of the 2017 Carnival of the city in which he dressed both as the Virgin Mary and the crucified Christ.

Casillas and his lawyer said that it was not his intention to offend, but only to seek attention, and asked for the complaint to be dismissed.
The president of the Christian Lawyers association, Polonia Castellanos, stated that Castillas's performance violated Articles 510 and 525 of the Penal Code. She said "We do not intend for anyone to go to jail, but to prevent this type of spectacle from happening again..." She noted that "less than two years ago a performance was censored because it supposedly insulted homosexuals. We are asking for the same right. No group should have more rights than others. We only ask for justice to be done and the law applied so that everybody will have the same rights."  The prosecutors office previously investigated the incident and declined to file charges.
