German Pastor Warns of Dire Situation for Christians in Refugee Camps

Country: Germany

Date of incident: January 18, 2016

“The situation in refugee camps, especially in Berlin is very dramatic”, said Pastor Gottfried Martens of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Berlin. Around 1.000 refugees from Iran, Afghanistan and the Arabic world visit his community.

There are many stories of security guards in asylum centers looking the other way when Christians were beaten or threatened for their beliefs. Moreover, in other cases when the police are called, often they cannot investigate because the Christian refugees do not speak German.

In Martens’ view, the security firms recruit their personal under strange conditions. “Actually it is enough to have strong arms and Arabic language skills”.

Weeks ago, a Christian man from Iran came to Martens’ church. He had a 30 centimetre long wound on his back. His story was terrible. During his sleep, a man entered his room and slashed his back with a knife.

Ismail Tipi, the spokesman for integration questions from the CDU in Germany, warned about Salafism. “As a matter of fact, the Salafists and the Islamists try to come into the refugee camps. There are also sources in the Internet for it. I am absolutely sure that there are also Islamists in the ranks of the security personnel.”
