Vandalism of Two Churches on the Same Day in Joigny

Country: France

Date of incident: February 25, 2015

The City of Joigny and Fr. Romain Tavernier, a parish priest, submitted two complaints for acts of vandalism and theft which had taken place in two churches.

Unknown perpetrators dislocated and stole a new trunk from the Saint-Thibault's Church, creating a hole in a wall in the church. On the same day in the evening, the priest disrupted and chased individuals who were engaged in damaging and profaning St. John's Church. Due to those acts the Church remained closed for several days. Damaged were chairs and candles, tablecloths, walls and paint, etc. According to witnesses the offenders were not necessarily the same people in the both incidents.
