Arson and vandalism in Absam Parish Church

Absam Parish Church was the target of a serious act of vandalism, two minors entered the church and desecrated the interior.

On 15 March 2026, the parish church in Absam, Tyrol, suffered deliberate damage, including burned pages from hymn books and religious cards, as well as spilled disinfectant and holy water on the floor. The incident caused disruption inside the church. At the time, authorities had no information on the perpetrators.

Investigators later identified the suspects following a garbage bin fire at a local school on 16 March 2026. During questioning, two boys aged seven and ten admitted responsibility for both the school and church incidents.

The acts occurred over a single weekend and resulted in significant damage to church property. The admissions confirmed the intentional nature of the incidents, and police continue to monitor the situation.
