Country: Italy

Date of incident: August 24, 2026

In Ripanstrone, the Cathedral was burgled and damaged by four unknown criminals on 24 August. The perpetrators stole donations and deliberately damaged several sacred images, including one of the Madonna and Child, which was found smashed.

The Cathedral in Ripatransone fell victim to burglary and deliberate damage of devotional objects. Four unknown individuals entered through the side door, stole approximately €2,500, the monthly donations from parishioners, and damaged several sacred images, including one of the Madonna and Child, which was found smashed.

The mayor, who entered the church after the damage, stated: "I found myself faced with a truly shocking sight. Seeing the painting of the Madonna and Child smashed to pieces really makes you think. It’s an act that leaves you speechless, because it was pure malice – so much so that they didn’t even steal the silver crown that was inside the frame."
