Young Man Arrested After Desecrating Church and Damaging Sacred Property

A young man was arrested after entering the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Łubów, where he committed acts of desecration and damaged religious objects near the altar and confessional.

On 8 June 2026, a young man entered the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Łubów, Poland, and carried out acts of desecration inside the place of worship. 

According to police reports, he was under the influence of alcohol and urinated on the floor of the confessional and damaged several sacred objects, including a liturgical book and equipment located near the altar area. Additional damage included destruction of a microphone, an electrical socket, and other church fittings.

The incident was recorded on CCTV, which enabled police to identify and arrest the suspect on 9 June 2026. Authorities stated that the man was taken into custody and later charged with offending religious feelings under Article 196 of the Polish Criminal Code.

During questioning, the suspect reportedly admitted to entering the church and causing damage, attributing his actions to alcohol intoxication. The District Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecinek has placed him under police supervision pending further legal proceedings. The case is expected to proceed to court.
