Protestors disrupt Holy Mass during pro-life prayer
On September 5, pro-abortion activists entered Westminster Cathedral during the opening Mass of the annual March for Life and interrupted the religious celebration in front of worshippers. The intrusion, which included holding banners and shouting pro-abortion slogans in front of the church sanctuary, occurred amidst an already hostile atmosphere outside the cathedral, where pro-abortion protesters reportedly heckled participants, shouting anti-Christian slogans, and disrupting the major Catholic pro-life event with many notable members of the church present.
According to the reports, a group of the several hundred counter-protesters entered the church during the service and began shouting during the celebration of the Eucharist. Video footage showed the protestors carrying a pro-abortion banner in front of the sanctuary which read: "Pro life? That's a lie. You don't care if people die." One report described the interruption as creating a "hostile and intimidating atmosphere." The footage further showed the intruders, while continuing to shout slogan, being dragged out of the church by security.
The reports describe several hundred protestors also standing outside the church while Mass was being celebrated, using megaphones to shout slogans including: "Christian fascists, get out of here."
