ISIS Supporter Arrested over Planned Attack on Bremen Church
In Brandenburg, federal prosecutors have arrested a man on suspicion of planning a serious act of violence against a church in Bremen, allegedly acquiring a firearm for this purpose. The 24-year-old individual is believed to be a supporter of the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) terrorist organisation, and was arrested by the Federal Criminal Police Office and was brought before the investigating judge on 17 September under suspicion of attempting to establish a terrorist organisation, preparing a serious crime endangering the state, and violating weapons laws.
On 17 September 2026, a 24-year-old Iraqi national, Gailian Al-M., was arrested by the Federal Criminal Police Office in the Barnim district of Brandenburg under suspicion of planning a violent attack against a church in Bremen. The individual is alleged to be a supporter of ISIS, planning an act of violence against those he considered "infidels," and was said to have acquired a firearm for this purpose.
Gailian Al-M. was brought before the investigating judge the same day of arrest under suspicion of attempting to found a terrorist organisation, recruit members, of preparing a serious crime endangering the state, and of violating weapons laws. The report states that in the Spring of 2025, he and others planned to carry out violent attacks in Germany against the "infidels," to which end he is said to have acquired a firearm and scouted out a Christian church in Bremen as his first target.
Local reports also state that this case is one among many ISIS supporters who have stood trial in Germany in the past years.
