Attack on Catholic Clinic in Flensburg
According to a report from 17 September, a Catholic clinic in Flensburg has been targeted in an attack by unknown protesters who have smeared the entrance of the hospital with a pro-abortionist inscription, as well as vandalising an information board. The perpetrators also left hangers at the entrance, which is used as a political symbol by pro-abortionists. The report identifies all the actions as directly targeting the attitude of the Catholic hospital, since it no longer performed abortion procedures.
Unknown perpetrators have smeared the entrance to the Catholic Malteser Fördklinikum St. Katharine in Flensburg with red paint, and an inscription which read: "Self-determination is our right." Along with vandalising a noticeboard at the hospital, there were coat hangers left at the entrance as a political signal of the abortion movement.
Since the Malteser took over the Förklinikum, the clinic no longer performed abortion procedures as part of its institutional conscientious objection to ending life. The vandalism caused an estimated damage of approximately €1000.
The attack fell amidst a heated debate concerning the growing pressure placed on Catholic medical institutions which refuse for religious or ethical reasons to perform abortion procedures.
The German public broadcaster Tagesschau also faced criticism for framing the vandalism as an “expression of protest”, without mentioning that the deliberate damage to property constituted a criminal offence.
