Grave of Late Patriarch Neophyte Desecrated

The grave of the late Patriarch Neophyte was desecrated in Sofia, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church informed Tuesday morning, April 16.
Two weeks before Orthodox Easter, unknown vandals removed and damaged the cross adorning the grace and the surrounding marble were defaced. The grave is situated at the colonnade of the Metropolitan Cathedral St. Nedelya. Due to Patriarch Neophyte’s death on March 13, the commemorative service is scheduled to take place on April 21, which marks 40 days since his passing. Law enforcement authorities are investigating the incident.
