Sacrilegious theft in Santarcangelo

Country: Italy

Date of incident: February 13, 2025

Unknown assailants broke into the church of the Capuchin Friars Minor in Santarcangelo di Romagna. The suspects went straight to the tabernacle and stole a pisside containing the consecrated hosts. The police are now investigating the attack.

The theft was discovered on the morning of 13 February by a lay member of the Third Franciscan Order, who was in charge of opening the liturgical space. The police were immediately called to the church, which was being renovated.

The criminals' intention was clear - according to Bishop Nicolò Anselmi, "nothing was stolen, those who entered went straight to the tabernacle. This kind of theft is often used by Satanist groups to desecrate the Body of Christ". The prelate has invited the community to a day of penance and prayer following this serious attack.
