Consecrated Hosts Stolen from Church in Taurianova in Second Theft Within Days
On 26 August 2025, unknown perpetrators targeted a church in Taurianova, where the tabernacle was desecrated and consecrated hosts were stolen. The deliberate targeting of the Eucharist constitutes a serious act of desecration in the Catholic context and occurred amid a second theft affecting the same parish within days.
In Taurianova, Italy, the desecration of the tabernacle and theft of consecrated Hosts from the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel provoked widespread condemnation from both civic and religious leaders. Lorenzo Festicini, President of the Istituto Nazionale Azzurro, denounced the act as “a direct profanation of the Body of Christ” and “a grave offense against the Catholic faith,” urging the faithful to respond with prayer and unity.
Mayor Roy Biasi also expressed his dismay, stating, “Acts of this kind, which in my memory have no precedent in the history of a city that instead makes authentic religious fervour the distinctive feature of its collective identity, must not and cannot go unpunished”. He emphasized solidarity with the parish community and called for a thorough investigation, adding, “I hope that our disturbance will produce a common reaction against those who condemn a sacred place to become the target of raids by criminals.”
The incident, reportedly the second theft in recent days, has deeply shaken the local faithful and reignited calls for justice and spiritual resilience.
