Consecrated Hosts Stolen from Church in Campagnola in Suspected Sacrilegious Theft
On 21 July, unknown perpetrators forced open the tabernacle of a church in Campagnola Emilia and stole consecrated hosts. The deliberate targeting of the Eucharist constitutes a serious act of desecration in the Catholic context. The incident indicates elements beyond financial motivation, as the primary target appears to have been the consecrated hosts rather than valuables.
The incident occurred at the parish church in Campagnola Emilia, where unknown perpetrators entered the building during opening hours and forced open the tabernacle located behind the main altar. The theft was discovered at around 19:00 by parish priest Gabriele Burani shortly before closing the church.
According to the report, the perpetrators removed the consecrated hosts after emptying the ciboria, which were left behind at the scene. The tabernacle had been forced open. A tablet used by the church choir was also reported missing from a storage room, but no other church property appeared to have been disturbed.
