Police Investigate Burned Circle at Historic Church Amid Suspicions of Anti-Christian Ritual

Country: Spain

Date of incident: October 12, 2025

A fire-marked circle outside a Romanesque church in Moaña has prompted police to explore possible links to black magic or anti-Christian vandalism.

Local police in Moaña, Spain, responded to a report from parish priest Manuel Barros about a nearly perfect blackened circle discovered in the atrium of the Church of San Martiño, a Romanesque structure central to the town’s heritage. The burn marks, likely created using barbecue lighting fluid, were found on the ground, stairs, and tiles near the main entrance.

Authorities considered motives ranging from vandalism to ritual acts involving black magic or superstition, though no suspects were identified.

The municipal cleaning service, managed by FCC Aqualia, conducted an initial cleanup and assessed potential damage, despite the church being privately owned. The priest also noted a missing screw from the church’s main door but could not confirm its relevance to the incident.
