Two Religious Statues Smashed
Two religious statues were deliberately broken inside the Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Montcenis, in what authorities are treating as an act of anti-Christian vandalism.
On November 6, 2025, two religious statues of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux and of the Sacred Heart of Jesus statues located in the center of the Church of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption in Montcenis, Saône-et-Loire, were found broken in an incident police classified as vandalism. The act occurred in the afternoon when the church was unoccupied. Surveillance footage captured the suspects, who fled the scene and are currently being sought by law enforcement.
The mayor, alerted immediately, contacted police and condemned the attack as a violation of local heritage. The municipality called for “respect for places of worship and vigilance from the inhabitants.”
According to Europe 1, the incident occurred amid a broader trend, with 401 anti-Christian acts recorded in France between January and June 2025—a 13% increase from the same period in 2024.
