Repeated Vandalism forces closure of Josefskapelle in Aign

Country: Germany

Date of incident: September 30, 2025

Repeated acts of vandalism targeting the St Joseph's Chapel in Aign, Bavaria, has led to its indefinite closure due to damage. In September, the spending of an aggressive liquid led to the destruction of the gold leaf coatings.

As reported in November 2025, the Josefskapelle in Aign, Bavaria, Germany, was closed indefinitely following repeated incidents of vandalism, including a confirmed attack in September 2025 during the meadow weekend, when unknown individuals applied aggressive liquids that severely damaged the chapel’s gold leaf coatings. The site, maintained voluntarily by the local chapel association, had previously suffered desecration of holy water and other forms of destruction.

Martina Stadler, reporting for the parish association, underscored the frustration of volunteers tasked with preserving the chapel. The location, intended as a place of peace and reflection overlooking the Inn valley, remained inaccessible to the public as a result of the sustained damage.
