Amiens Christmas Market Nativity Scene Vandalised
The nativity scene at the Christmas market in Amiens was vandalised during the night of 25-26 November 2025: several statuettes — including the figure of the infant Jesus — were broken, leading to public indignation and closure of the display.
In the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, 25–26 November 2025, the Christmas nativity scene at the market of Amiens — a traditional display set up every year by the local neighbourhood committee — was vandalised.
The perpetrator broke the protective plexiglass covering, overturned the wooden figures, and several statuettes were found shattered. Among the damaged items was the statuette of the infant Jesus, whose head was reportedly detached from the body.
As a result, the display was closed to the public. The damage deprived locals and visitors of viewing the nativity scene and required that the structure be removed from the market for repair.
Several inhabitants expressed their distress in public and on social media, lamenting that the work of volunteers had been destroyed for no reason.
According to the municipal authorities, video-surveillance had recorded the act. The CCTV images have been offered for transmission to the relevant judicial authorities. The individual was described as a marginalised person and identified as the likely perpetrator — but no arrest had been reported at the time of the latest public statements.
