Church in Poznan Vandalised with Threatening Graffiti

Country: Poland

Date of incident: February 5, 2026

Unknown individuals vandalised the exterior of a Roman Catholic church in the Stare Żegrze district of Poznań with threatening graffiti and satanic symbols, including the message “this church will burn.” The incident caused distress within the parish and was reported to the police.

The damage was discovered in the early hours of 5 February, shortly before a scheduled morning service, by church personnel of the Parish of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The vandals defaced the church’s entrance doors as well as parts of the façade surrounding a figure of Christ.

The graffiti included explicit threats and symbols commonly associated with satanic imagery, such as inverted crosses, a pentagram, the number 666, and the Polish phrase “ten kościół spłonie” (“this church will burn”).

In response, the parish priest expressed concern and appealed for peace, writing on social media: “Protect us from hatred, God!” The incident was reported to the police, although the parish stated that it did not expect the perpetrators to be identified.
