Eppingen Church Suffered Arson Attack and Extensive Vandalism Targeting Sacred Objects
A Catholic church in Eppingen, Germany, was severely vandalised in an incident involving fire-setting, widespread damage to church property, and destruction of sacred religious objects, including the Easter candle and altar. A suspect, reported to be a teenager, has been arrested and police investigations are ongoing.
The Catholic city church Unsere Liebe Frau in Eppingen (Heilbronn district, Germany) suffered extensive vandalism involving deliberate fire-setting and destruction of religious and interior property. Church inventory was set on fire, wax was spread throughout the building, and multiple sacred objects were damaged, including the altar and the Easter candle, which holds symbolic religious significance and could not be fully replaced.
Damage also extended to structural and interior elements, with wax penetrating sandstone surfaces and church furnishings.
The parish priest, Tobias Streit, stated that he was deeply shaken by the incident. This is not the first time the church has been targeted.
A suspect, reported to be a teenager, has been arrested and police investigations are ongoing.
