Deliberate arson of chapel depicting the Last Supper in Lublin
Police in Lublin have detained two men in connection with the deliberate arson of a chapel at a local sanctuary, where sculptures depicting the Last Supper were destroyed after being doused in petrol and set on fire.
On 3 November, police from the 7th Police Station in Lublin detained two men, aged 54 and 44, suspected of deliberately setting fire to a chapel located at the Sanctuary of the Holy Family on Jana Pawła II Street. The chapel contained sculptures depicting the Last Supper and was almost completely destroyed in the blaze, with losses estimated at around 70,000 PLN.
According to investigators, the perpetrators poured petrol over the religious sculptures before igniting them, causing rapid and extensive damage to the structure. Initial on-site assessments and evidence collection suggested that the fire was the result of intentional action, prompting a wider criminal investigation.
The incident occurred in mid-October 2025 and was reported shortly after the fire engulfed the chapel. Criminal officers analysed the gathered evidence and operational findings, which led to the identification and subsequent detention of the two suspects. Both men have been charged with property damage.
