Prominent Cross Vandalised with Graffiti in Réalmont

On 25 June 2026, the Croix de Caylou, a prominent cross overlooking Réalmont, was vandalised with graffiti on two sides. The vandalism affected a monument that is both a Christian symbol and a longstanding landmark for the local community.

On 25 June 2026, unknown perpetrators painted graffiti on two sides of the Croix de Caylou in Réalmont. The inscription read: “They made me paranoid, but God sees everything up there”, accompanied by the date of the vandalism. 

The Croix de Caylou was ereceted 1947 on the summit of the Caylou hill by Lazarist priests. Visible from a considerable distance, it has become a recognised feature of the local landscape and a religious monument associated with the town.

The offence constitutes vandalism of a Christian religious symbol which had undergone refurbishing in recent years. According to the report, the damage prompted confusion and disappointment among local residents who are desiring its repair as soon as possible.
