Pilgrimage site in Poland vandalised with satanic symbols

The attack has prompted condemnation from the affected local Catholic community.
The incident was reported on 14 July 2026 at Kalwaria Zebrzydowska where several chapels along the Stations of the Cross were vandalised with Satanic graffiti and symbols, reading phrases such as "Ave, Satan." According to the Bernardine Fathers, whose monastery is at the location, unknown perpetrators painted the satanic graffiti on several chapels along the pilgrimage complex. The inscriptions caused damage to the historic religious structures, which are a prominent religious site for Polish Catholics used for prayer and pilgrimage, and form part of the UNESCO World Heritage list.
In a public statement, the Bernardine Fathers condemned the attack and appealed for respect for places of worship and of cultural heritage. They asked the faithful to pray for those responsible and expressed hope that the damage would be repaired. The clergy reported that the vandalism affected a site which has been called a the "Polish Jerusalem" and which is of particular religious significance that attracts pilgrims throughout the year, further stating, "Every attack on this place is a blow to our common history and values."
