Mosaic of the Virgen del Carmen de Huelin Vandalized

Country: Spain

Date of incident: July 31, 2017

The popular ceramic mosaic of the Virgin Mary and Jesus child located on the beach promenade in the Huelin neighborhood of Malaga was damaged by vandals for the second time in four months and 15 days after having been repaired.

The president of La Agrupación de Congregaciones, Hermandades y Cofradías de Gloria de la capital called it an "attack on the artistic heritage of our city, a real provocation in every respect to the religious feelings of many Malaga people in general, and the neighbors of Huelin in particular." He also indicated that the event has filled them with "rage and impotence."

The mosaic had been in place for more than 20 years and had never been vandalized before the attack in April 2017. Read about the April attack here. Source: Diario Sur
