Theft of religious objects and cemetery vandalism
In August, someone stole money, keys and the personal belongings, including devotional objects, of a canon from the archpriest at the church of Saints Simon and Jude in Cartigliano. Earlier that month, someone destroyed flowers and vases on several graves in the town's cemetery.
Don Graziano Lighezzolo published an open letter to the thief: "Don't do what you did again..." and hoped for the return of the crown of the Holy Rosary, which was a "precious memory" of his mother, as well as the keys. In addition to the money from the offertory intended for the celebration of Masses in memory of the deceased, some of the parish priest's personal belongings have also disappeared.
It is not known exactly when the theft took place, probably a few weeks ago," said the deputy mayor of Andriolo, Giuseppe Orazio. "The theft of the canon is another signal that should make us think. We are now seeing signals of this kind all too often".
Episodes of rubbish dumping and minor damage to public property continue to occur. At the beginning of August, the people of Cartiglia were saddened by another incident: someone had destroyed flowers and vases on several graves in the town cemetery. Mayor Racchella described the vandal's gesture as "animalistic".
