Four churches targeted by vandals and thieves and one cemetery vandalised

In May 2023, four churches and a cemetery were targeted by vandals and thieves in France.
On 4 May, a chapel was desecrated. In the chapel of Oytier-Saint-Oblas, the altar containing the remains of a nun was desecrated. According to the mayor and the president of the association of friends of the chapel, the hypothesis of a satanic ritual cannot be ruled out. The mayor also stated that this had "happened in the past".
In Saône et Loire, the Saint-Saturnin church of La Motte-Saint-Jean was vandalised between 7 and 8 May. The parish priest denounced "an act that touches the heart of our faith".
On 18 May, acts of vandalism took place in Noé, south of Toulouse, in Haute-Garonne. Four Christian graves and two Jewish graves were vandalised in the cemetery.
On 24 May, a Celtic cross was stolen from the church of Saint-Louis in Lorient. According to the local clergy, the cross was "not to be destroyed", but it was still suspended four metres above the ground and weighed about thirty kilos.
In Saint-Maurin, in the Lot-et-Garonne, there was a burglary. Several cibori, one of which was in the tabernacle and contained consecrated hosts, were stolen.
