Two churches attacked and desecrated in northern France

On the same day, two nearby churches in the Pas-de-Calais were robbed and vandalised. At the Saint-Saturnine church of Sains-lès-Marquion, the tabernacle was broken open, the chalice stolen and the consecrated hosts thrown to the ground. Both incidents are being investigated by the police.
During the night of 23 to 24 October, unknown assailants broke into two churches in the communes of Arrageois, Sains-lès-Marquion and Trescault. The churches attacked - the church of Saint-Saturnine and the church of Saint-Martin - were the victims of desecration and burglary.
The local Christian community has been deeply affected by these attacks, especially in the case of Saint-Saturnine, where the criminals committed the sacrilegious act of throwing the consecrated hosts on the floor after breaking into the tabernacle and stealing the sacred objects kept there.
While the police are investigating the matter and looking for suspects, the local priest has announced a Mass of reparation in the presence of the bishop of the diocese of Arras.
