Swastika Carved Into Church Door
A church in Berlin was vandalised with Nazi symbols, including a swastika and SS runes. Authorities are investigating the incident as ideologically motivated act targeting a place of worship.
The incident was discovered in late May 2025 at the St. Ludwig Church in the Wilmersdorf district of Berlin, where unknown perpetrators carved a swastika and double “Sieg rune” symbols into the wooden entrance door. The damage was reported by a church employee after being noticed on 28 May.
The symbols used are historically associated with National Socialism, with the double rune representing the emblem of the SS. Their use is prohibited under German law and is widely recognised as an expression of extremist ideology.
The State Security Division of the Berlin State Criminal Police Office is investigating.
