Repeated Vandalism and Desecration Target Church in Trento
A church in Trento was targeted in a fourth attempted break-in, amid a series of incidents involving vandalism and degrading behaviour affecting multiple nearby church sites.
The latest incident occurred during the night of 6–7 June 2025 at the Church of Sant’Anna, where unknown perpetrators attempted to force entry, damaging the door and removing the handle. The case forms part of a broader pattern of incidents in the area, including acts that go beyond theft and amount to desecration—most notably a previous episode in which perpetrators left human excrement inside a sacristy of a nearby church.
The church has been targeted multiple times, with this incident marking the fourth attempt following earlier cases between November and December 2024. In nearby churches, including the Church of San Marco and facilities associated with the Church of the Suffragio, perpetrators had previously succeeded in entering buildings, stealing money and religious items.
In the most recent case, additional signs of degrading behaviour were found at the site, including traces of urine, litter, cigarette butts, bottles, and graffiti on the steps of the church, indicating continued misuse of the space.
The parish priest, Don Roberto Lucchi, has reported the incidents and called for increased security measures, including surveillance systems, in response to the repeated targeting of the church.
