Priest attacked in Hubová

On July 29, a Catholic priest was attacked in his house. According to the mayor of Hubová, the attacker appeared at the parish house and assaulted the priest in the entrance hall with an electric cable. The priest sustained minor injuries to his face and legs, but managed to push the man outside, lock the door behind him and alert the police.
The attacker, described by locals in Ľubochňa as reclusive and eccentric, then fled the scene and barricaded himself inside his family home. Officers from the Emergency Police Unit of the Žilina Regional Directorate eventually arrested the suspect several hours later.
According to Hubová’s mayor, Stanislav Nechaj, the attacker appeared at the parish house and assaulted the priest in the entrance hall using an electric cable. The priest suffered light injuries to his face and legs but succeeded in pushing the man outside, locking the door behind him, and alerting the police. The attacker, who is described by locals in Ľubochňa as reclusive and eccentric, fled the scene and barricaded himself inside his family home. In response, all available patrols, a specialized tactical unit, and a police negotiator were deployed. Officers from the Emergency Police Unit of the Žilina Regional Directorate eventually intervened and arrested the suspect after a few hours.
The motive behind the attack remains unknown. The case is now being handled by an investigator from the District Police Directorate in Ružomberok, though authorities have stated that no further details can be shared at this time due to ongoing proceedings. Bishop František Trstenský, who spoke with the injured priest, confirmed he is recovering well and emphasized the priest’s willingness to forgive his attacker, whom he had never met before.
