Witness Reports of Online Mobbing for Christian Positions

Country: Germany

Date of incident: May 29, 2013

A letter to the editor by kath.net user „trierer“ about what he experienced in a German online discussion forum sheds light on the exclusion of Christians and Christians values from the public.

„I recently took a stand on SPIEGEL ONLINE (clf. www.spiegel.de, a major German newspaper) to plead in favour of at least hearing the concerns of the French demonstrators (clf. La Manif pour tous; a series of large manifestations against gay marriage in the spring 2013). Being scared easily is definitely not one of the most dominating treats of my character, but the torrents of hatred directed at me from this forum were absolutely terrifying. The tyranny of the tolerant showed its true face. The ones calling for sympathy for even the vilest actions rejected any questions directed at themselves as radically right-wing and reactionist. Mentioning traditional values was denounced as fundamentalist-fascistic. I admit I did not think people were capable of reacting this way. Should these people ever attain a lot of influence, we Catholics will be the first ones having to return to the catacombs. There will be a merciless 'speech police' eradicating everything that is sacred to religious people. That we can expect!“ View posting: http://www.kath.net/news/41443 Identity of author known to Observatory.
