Study Reveals Discomfort of Parents on Religious Freedom in Schools

67% of French Catholic parents say that public schools do not respect the freedom of conscience of their children.

The « Fondation de Service politique » in France has questioned 3000 parents, most of them regular Catholic Churchgoers, on their experience with freedom of religion in the schools of their children. On the question “Do public schools respect the freedom of conscience of your children?”, 67% of those questioned answered no. Upon being asked “Are your children victims of criticism on grounds of or because of their religion in public schools?”, 20% answered yes. 91% of parents wish that the Catholic Church in France takes action against the obstacles placed to freedom of education.
