No Plaque for Catholic Saint on House of Birth

Saint Maravillas de Jesus was born in a house which is now the local Spanish parliament of Valladoid. A plaque with a commemorative inscription was declined on behalf of left wing parties.

Saint Maravillas de Jesus was born in 1891 in a building now belonging to the parliamentary complex of Valladoid. She became one of the founders of the monastary Carmel on the Hill of Angels, fourteen miles from Madrid. She was canonized partly on the basis of having suffered threats from leftists during Spain's 1936-39 civil war. It was left wing parties again who opposed the initiative of placing a comemorative plaque on the grounds that the state was non-confessional.
