Chapel Saint-François in Rennes Vandalised

Country: France

Date of incident: April 9, 2014

Unidentified people broke into the Chapel of Saint- François in Rennes on April 9th breaking open the door to the sacristy. They left lying on the floor the vestments, liturgical linens, and other sacred objects. The perpetrator(s) emptied the poor boxes, but most importantly, the tabernacle was opened and the ciborium tampered with.

The parish priest expressed his sincere hope that the consecrated hosts inside were in no way desecrated. He also proposed a reparation ceremony and called upon parishioners to offer up communion on Sunday for reparation and for the repentance of the perpetrator(s).
The archbishop of Rennes, Mgr Pierre d’Ornellas, condemned this act as well as two other acts of vandalism, one in the church of Saint-Martin in Moutiers and the other at Saint-Crépin-et-Saint-Crépinien in Rannée. Sources:
