German Father Imprisoned for Opting his Child out of Sex Education
On Monday, April 7th, Arthur Wiens was jailed for opting his child out of a sex education class in which nine-year-olds are taught about sexual intercourse with a plush vagina and rubber penis. Wiens spent a week behind bars, and his wife is threatened with a similar punishment.
In the last years several cases of parents being punished for opposing sex-education have arisen, especially in the state of North-Rhine-Westphalia, ruled by a left-wing state government. There are cases of mothers and fathers being imprisoned for weeks, one mother with an infant.Areas such as Berlin and Baden–Württemberg are planning to tighten their sex education policies as well.
