Police Advice: Record Christian Street Preacher To Sue Them

Country: United Kingdom

Date of incident: June 30, 2014

Police advice people to record a Christian street preacher Mr Michael Overd on a video if he makes offensive remarks as some passers-by in High Street were upset when he expressed his views about homosexuality and sex outside marriage.

Mr Michael Overd in Taunton was preaching in June in the town centre of Somerset. Some passers-by in High Street were upset when he expressed his views about homosexuality and sex outside marriage. Sgt Neil Kimmins said that people shouldn’t let themselves abuse like that. He wants to gather evidence before discussing with the Crown Prosecution whether to make any charges. He advised bystanders to record any incident on their mobile phone and send it to the police if the felt offended. Anyone who feels offended by the street preacher can call police or e-mail any video evidence to ssntauntontowncentre@avonandsomerset.police.uk. Mr Overd was cleared of harassment in February 2012.
