Protests Against a Sexual Ethics Congress

Country: Germany

Date of incident: May 22, 2014

The association “White cross” (Weißes Kreuz) hosted a congress about sexual ethics between the 22nd and the 24th of May in Kassel, Germany. This congress was a target of strong general criticism, also by the representatives of the city of Kassel. Shortly before the start of the congress, the congress building was vandalized by red color paint as a symbol of disagreement.

The aim of this congress was to talk about sexual ethic based from the biblical point of view. Before the beginning of the congress the initiation was a target of strong criticism, mostly because of the planned presence of two out of 38 speakers: Christl Ruth Vonholdt from German Institute for young people and society (DIJG) and Markus Hoffmann, the chairman of the association „Wüstenstrom“. Both were expected to talk about therapy for homosexuals. Vonholdt and Hoffmann reiterated that they accept the right of everyone to accept their homosexuality and live it but they also want to help people who do not want to accept their homosexual feelings.
The representatives of the city of Kassel expressed their strong disagreement with such a congress in their city. Shortly before the start of the congress, the congress building was vandalized by red color paint as a symbol of disagreement. The two unidentified vandals have not been caught. Source:
