Devastation of St. John's Church in Plauen / Saxony

The interior of the Protestant Church of St. John's in Plauen (Saxony) was vandalized with fire extinguisher powder. The total damages are estimated at 10,000 euros.

The chemical substances of the fire extinguishing powder affected all metallic parts such as organs with their pipes and tubes, the heating system and the chandeliers. Also, the late Gothic altar shrine and some paintings were partially destroyed. The case was reported in "Sonntag", the weekly newspaper of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Saxony. The pastor Hans-Jörg Rummel sees this as an act of intentional vandalism mentioning in addition that his church was already subject to several incidents of smaller acts of vandalism, as well as theft and defamation.
