Christian Graves Desecrated in Matoury (French Guiana)
Several graves in the cemetery of Matoury, French Guiana (15 km from Cayenne) were intentionally vandalized.
The prefecture announced in a statement that eight crucifixes were stolen or damaged. These acts of vandalism targeted "eight graves" according to the Chief of Staff of the prefect, Xavier Luquet. "The affected graves are very simple graves where the coffin is planted with a plaque on it and a wooden cross," he said. "Alcohol and pieces of chicken bones were found at the scene, which may suggest esoteric rites although no hypothesis is excluded", was further stated by Mr. Luquet.
