A Statue of the Virgin Mary Desecrated in Châtel
Unknown perpetrators have committed various degradations and profanations in the main town of the resort of Châtel in Haute-Savoie. The statue of Our Lady of Skieurs in front of the church was the main target for the vandals.
The perpetrators knocked off both hands of the statue of Mary and thrown them into the cemetery. The statue of Our Lady of Skieurs is the work of the Polish sculptor Max Misztal and had been made for a celebration of the millennium in 2000.
