Church Bells Destroyed in French Chapel

Country: France

Date of incident: December 13, 2015

Vandals broke into the locked chapel of Saint-Hervé-Ménez Bré in Pédernec and rang the church bells so hard that one of them is irreparably broken while the other, off-axis from its support, is stuck.

In the night from Saturday the 12th to Sunday the 13th of December, unknown individuals broke into the chapel and destroyed the bells. On Sunday morning a neighbor, Michel Guegan (a major donor who, with the help of the Friends of Heritage, contributed to the installation of two new bells in March 2012), discovered a broken door while walking on the premises.
The damage is all the more distressing to the community because the cost of the bells, including installation, amounted to € 13,530. Source: Le Trégor
