Religious Statues Spray-Painted at Site Dedicated to the Virgin Mary

Country: France

Date of incident: December 27, 2015

Several religious statues, among which Jesus Christ was central, as well as a commemorative plaque and the floor were all spray painted red in a grotto altar in Libaux.

One month after the November attacks in Paris, a resident of Lessard-en-Bresse went to the grotto of Libaux to pray and discovered the vandalism. The town has filed a complaint and is preparing, in cooperation with the parish priest of Sainte Trinité en Bresse, to rehabilitate the site, which was erected in 1950 in memory of the Virgin Mary.
