Some time during night, an unknown perpetrator took the doll used in the role of the infant Jesus and hung it with a rope in front of the Nativity. The dolls was noticed by a few passers-by who reported it to the police. The doll was then placed back in the crib that was set up by the public, from which the offerings were to raise funds for leukemia research.

The Bishop wrote a letter to the parish priest of Pitelli, Don Giovanni Tassano, to condemn the act and express solidarity to the whole community of Pitelli.
