Country: Germany

Date of incident: January 20, 2016

Assyrian refugees hope to be housed apart from Muslims in the future camp near Stuttgart due to conflicts and threats.

Assyrians are Christians who mainly come from Syria and Iraq. In the refugee accommodations, they are experiencing systematic bullying at the hands of Muslim refugees, according to interviews with Christians in the Stuttgartner Nachrichten. Examples of such bullying include being forbidden from eating or storing pork and sitting at the same table. Verbal confrontations as well as physical abuse is reported. "Our people are afraid of the great mass of Muslim asylum seekers," said a spokesman for the Assyrian community in Stuttgart. He wished to remain anonymous for fear of the consequences of his statements. "Most are scared and have lost confidence in the authorities and social workers," said the spokesman.  Source: Stuttgarter Nachrichten
