Church Desecrated in Grandate

Country: Italy

Date of incident: August 13, 2016

During the night of August 13, 2016, unknown persons forced open the door of the church of San Bartolomeo in the Como province and attempted to break open the tabernacle containing consecrated Hosts, broke the marble lectern, and topped the statue of Our Lady of Lourdes, breaking her hands and nose.

The Bishop decided that the statue of the Virgin Mary would not be repaired, so that people will remember these events. Local parishioners were offended by this act, and the priest noted that the act was committed close to the Roman Catholic feast of the Assumption. An investigation was opened.
