Graffiti Damaged Granada Cathedral

Country: Spain

Date of incident: November 25, 2016

The Archbishop of Granada filed a complaint after graffiti was painted on the facade of the Metropolitan Curia and the Cathedral, one of the most important cultural sites of the city. The vandalism occurred during the night from the 24 to 25 of November and damaged the original stone of the Cathedral.

In addition to filing the complaint, the Archbishop reported the incident to the Delegation of Culture of the Government of Andalusia, which has provided the authorizations necessary for cleaning the facade. The Archbishop added that is waiting to receive the final permit from the City of Granada to undertake the cleaning for what he considers "a new aggression against the Christian heritage of Granada".
