National Police Investigate Hacking of HazteOir.org

Country: Spain

Date of incident: April 4, 2017

HazteOir.org, the group behind a Christian anti-gender ideology publicity campaign using a bus, suffered a computer attack on some of its old accounts and social networks on April 4, 2017. The self-identified "cybercriminals" attempted to use the stolen information to blackmail and extort the president of the group on social networks.

"This new aggression aims once again to curb our freedom of expression and frighten us from our current campaign #ElBusDeLaLibertad," said Ignacio Arsuaga, president of HazteOir.org.
"The information [about me] published in social networks is false and has been manipulated by these cybercriminals with the sole aim of silencing an association for expressing itself freely and to punish me as president [by trying to] harm my personal reputation and in my family life," added Arsuaga.
