Church Burglarised and Vandalised

Country: Switzerland

Date of incident: May 13, 2010

Unidentified criminals burglarised and vandalised a Catholic church in Switzerland. The act included desecration of the Eucharist and of the Bible.

On the Feast of the Ascension, thieves broke into the sacristy of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Plainpalais, Geneva, stealing the church’s monstrance and ciborium. Authorities are resisting calling the attack a desecration based on the fact that there were no messages left by the vandals. However, the act went beyond simple theft to include profanation. The Eucharist (for Catholics the most holy object of worship) was scattered on the ground, and pages were torn from the Bible.  http://www.tdg.ch/geneve/actu/vandales-profane-eglise-saint-francois-sales-2010-05-13&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dla%2Bsalon%2Bbeige%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den&rurl=translate.google.com&twu=1&usg=ALkJrhhJl2m4zaJ_-RMbcvlw3byNS5EfEQ
