Anti-theist authors call for Pope’s Arrest

Country: United Kingdom

Date of incident: April 20, 2010

Dawkins and Hitchens are accusing Pope Benedict of committing crimes against humanity and calling for his arrest when he sets foot on British soil in the fall.

Atheist activists Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens, alleging that Pope Benedict XVI has covered up sexual abuse in the Catholic Church, want the Roman Pontiff to be arrested during his State visit to Britain this September. In an inflammatory gesture of disrespect, Dawkins and Hitchens have met with human rights lawyers Mark Stephens and Geoffrey Robertson to build a case against Pope Benedict on the grounds that he has committed crimes against humanity as defined by the International Criminal Court. In doing so, the two men are baselessly attributing to Pope Benedict a systematic complicity in sexual abuse and comparing this alleged action with war crimes. Dawkins, author of God is not Great, has betrayed his own anti-Christian motives in previous incendiary rhetoric regarding the Catholic church, calling it a "profiteering, woman-fearing, guilt-gorging, truth-hating, child-raping institution," and claiming that, “the Pope is either stupid, ignorant or dim.”  See video of Dawkins here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ccbVCxWNn8 http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/04/12/2869790.htm
