Longford Church Broken into and Tabernacle Stolen

St Michael’s Church outside Longford was due to open its doors for Easter Sunday Mass when the break-in was discovered. The church window was broken and the altar was severely damaged. Several items were stolen, including the tabernacle.

Bishop Francis Duffy, Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois said, "This act of desecration is disrespectful to religion and to the local community. It is extremely upsetting for the parishioners and the clergy here in Longford that something like this could happen, but especially during Holy Week.”
 
Police launched an investigation.
