Statue of Our Lady of Lourdes Decapitated in Spain

Country: Spain

Date of incident: April 3, 2017

The statue of Our Lady of Lourdes in a cave of the Paraje de las Tobas, a natural area of the Sierra de Huelva, was decapitated and its hands were broken off. The head was found, but the civil guard continued to search for the hands as well as the perpetrators.

After the incident, the statue was removed for repairs by the City Council and the local community is outraged, as they have a great devotion to the image.

The image of the Virgin of Lourdes has been in the Paraje de las Tobas since 1949. In that natural cave there are two more Marian images, but none of these were damaged.
